Canine urolithiasis: a look at over 16 000 urolith submissions to the Canadian Veterinary Urolith Centre from February 1998 to April 2003.

This article summarises the results of the analyses of 16,647 canine bladder uroliths sent to CVUC between 1998 and 2003. Struvite was more common (43.8%) than oxalate (41.5%), and is also more common in female dogs. Miniature Schnawzer, Shih tzu, bichon frise, Lhasa apso and Yorkshire terrier are the most common breeds for both uroliths. Risk factors, treatment and prevention recommendations are also reviewed.
