Dietary trial using a commercial hypoallergenic diet containing hydrolyzed protein for dogs with inflammatory bowel disease.

This article describes the effect of a highly digestible hypoallergenic diet with hydrolyzed soy globulins, cornstarch, MTC and an altered ratio of omega-6:omega-3 PUFA on a group (n=6) of dogs with IBD that had been refractory to other controlled diets and some with no response to medical therapy. Diet therapy alone caused a clinical improvement in 4 dogs, and medical treatment had to be added to 2 dogs. Whether the improvement is only attributable to the hydrolyzed soy protein or to the other constituents of the diet requires further studies.
