Use of a high-protein diet in the management of feline diabetes mellitus.

This study investigates how a high-protein and low-carbohydrate canned diet affects diabetes in adult cats. Nine cats completed the study and remained stable, although they exhibited a slight improvement in activity. Insulin dose could be decreased in eight of the cats, and even stopped in three of them. Measurement of serum fructosamine revealed that exogenous insulin could be reduced by over 50%.
