Raw and Rendered Animal By-Products as Ingredients in dog diets.

This study examined digestion of animal by-products in dog diets, in the ileum and total GI tract. Diets used were extruded kibble containing rendered beef meat and bone meal (RMBM); fresh beef (FB); poultry by-product meal (PBPM); fresh poultry (FP); defatted soy flour (DS) and dehydrated whole egg (WE). Results showed: variations in nutrient intake levels in the ileum and for total tract digestion levels; consistently high amino acid digestibility in the ileum, increased for diets incorporating FP vs PBPM except for cystine with animal by-products greater than DS and lower than WE controls.
