This article evaluated the correlation between dietary protein content and fat loss and body condition in cats receiving different isocaloric diets with 35% or 45% of calories coming from protein. A greater loss of body fat and preservation of lean body mass was achieved with the high-protein diet compared to the control diet.
Increased dietary protein promotes fat loss and reduces loss of lean body mass during weight loss in cats.
