This article reviews the survival times of 321 cats with renal insufficiency on different diets. Mean survival time of the 175 cats on conventional diets was 7 months compared to 16 months in cats on therapeutic diets. While the composition of the therapeutic diets was comparable, the most effective therapeutic diet (mean survival time 23 months) had a very high content of eicosapentaenoic acid.
Retrospective study of the survival of cats with acquired chronic renal insufficiency offered different commercial diets.
