Effects of dietary fibre supplementations on glycaemic control in dogs with alloxan induced diabetes mellitus.

This study investigated the effect of different levels (low [LF], high) and types (insoluble [IF], soluble [SF]) of dietary fiber on glycemic control in 6 dogs with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus induced with alloxan. They used a crossover study design so that each dog received each diet for 56 days using different diet sequences, and received 2 daily injections of pork lente insulin together with 50% of their daily caloric intake, adjusted to maintain the basal body weight. Mean postprandial glycemia was significantly lower in dogs fed IF and SF diets vs. LF diet.
