Influence of four diets containing approximately 11% protein (dry weight) on uric acid, sodium urate, and ammonium urate urine activity product ratios of healthy beagles.

This study analyzes a number of urine parameters of urine samples from 6 healthy Beagle dogs after being fed with 4 diets with different protein levels and sources. All diets produced a similar volume of alkaline urine, but the 24-hour urine pH after consuming the egg-based diet was significantly higher. This diet also caused higher product ratios of uric acid, sodium urate and ammonium urate and higher urinary excretion of Cl, K, P and oxalic acid.
