This article looks at the role of zinc in the human immune system after recent in vitro research results. When zinc is not in physiologic range, immune responses are markedly reduced. Leukocytes reduce the production of Th1 cytokines and Interferon alpha. Therefore, zinc concentration is an important parameter to look at in studies of the immune system.
