The role of nutritional interventions in the longevity and maintenance of long-term health in ageing cats.

This study evaluates the role of a combination of nutritional supplements in health and longevity in senior cats. 90 cats aged 7-17 years, were allocated to 3 groups according to age, BCS and gender and received 1 of 3 diets (control, enriched with antioxidants, enriched with antioxidants, chicory root and a blend of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids) for the remaining lifetime. Numerous parameters were measured (haematology, weight, lean body mass, skin thickness, activity level) before and during the study. Length and quality of live were improved in the senior cats fed with a nutritionally enhanced diet.
