Effect of nutritional interventions on longevity in senior cats.

This study evaluates the role of antioxidants in health and longevity in cats. 90 cats aged 7-17 years, were allocated to 3 groups according to age, BCS and gender and received 1 of 3 diets (control, enriched with antioxidants, enriched with antioxidants, chicory root and a blend of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids) for the remaining lifetime. After 5 years, the cats fed with the later diet lived significantly longer and had positive indicators of reduced disease incidence and better intestinal health compared to those fed with the control diet.
